Q: What is your style of therapy?
A: My primary focus in therapy is the present and current situations in your life. I believe that you are the expert on your own life and I see my role as a guide. I have an honest approach and often bring my sense of humor into our sessions.
Q: What happens when I make the first call to you?
A: During our initial conversation, I will want to learn more about why you are interested in therapy. I am aslo happy to answer any questions that you might have. If you would like to schedule an appointment, we will find a time that works for both of us.
Q: What happens during the first appointment?
A: The first appointment is a chance for you to see if I am a good fit for you and to determine if you would like to continue working together. During this appointment, we will discuss your reason for seeking help and your goals for therapy. Sessions are typically fifty minutes.
Q: How do I know if you are the right therapist for me?
A: Trust your instincts. Do you feel comfortable with me? Am I someone you can be honest with? I believe that a therapist should be someone who makes you feel safe and who is able to challenge you at the same time. Feeling comfortable with your therapist is crucial for change to happen.
Q: Why do people go to therapy?
A: There are many reasons people come to therapy, usually it is because they have been working on making changes themselves and have been unsuccessful. Some common reasons are: not feeling content; feeling depressed or nervous; difficulties with relationships; seeking personal growth; or wanting support through a transition.
Q: How often would I need to come in?
A: Ultimately, you determine how often you come in. We can discuss frequency of sessions during our first appointment. Clients typically come in once a week.
Q: How long dio I need to come in?
A: Length of treatment really varies on the person and the issue. Some people want help for a specific period of time, others find the support valuable on a long-term basis. Therapy typically ends when you have met your goals. You are the best judge of when you feel ready to move on.
